“Joker” is a very special horse who is beginning his 3’ Green Hunter career in 2023.

After competing in the FEI jumpers in Europe as a young horse (up to 1.30m), Joker was imported to the United States in the fall of 2020. After showing lightly in the jumpers here, his talent for the hunters was recognized, and we purchased him. He began the transition to the hunters in the summer of 2021 and earned excellent ribbons in the 2’9” USHJA Hunters at the Oregon High Desert Classic and the Paso Robles Fall Classic horse shows.

With his scope, beautiful jump and athleticism, Joker has “Hunter Derby” written all over him.

He’s a serious prospect for someone who wants to reach the USHJA International Hunter Derby Championships one day. In the meantime, Joker is eligible for the USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Program and championships for 2023-24, a lucrative program for top-quality green hunters, and he fits that description to a “T.”

“Learning about our horses is learning about ourselves, as well, seeing how our personalities mesh or clash with the horses we choose to ride or train.”

2016 Deutsches Sportpferd gelding - 16.1 hands (Osilvis—Carma, Cartouche Z)

“Sunny” is a talented hunter now competing in the 3’3” Green Hunters. So far in 2023, he’s earned multiple championships at the Aiken Winter/Spring shows and had successfully competed in the USHJA National Hunter Derbies.

Sunny finished 2022 by winning the South Carolina Hunter Jumper Association Hunter Derby Championship (his first time under the lights!) and was reserve champion 3’/3’3” Green Hunter in the SCHJA year-end standings with limited showing. By virtue of his stellar performances, Sunny also finished sixth in the USHJA Green Hunter Incentive national standings for American-bred horses.

Sunny has a rich pool of jumping talent in his genes. His sire is a winning Grand Prix jumper, and his dam was a winning amateur jumper by another winning Grand Prix jumper. Although he has the scope and talent to follow that path, his lovely conformation, beautiful jumping style and quiet demeanor will take him to the top in the hunters.

If we could describe Sunny in one word it would be brave! He loves to jump and nothing fazes him! We see Sunny quickly making up into a junior/amateur hunter for a rider who seeks a talented (and loyal) partner for the future, whether 3’6” or derbies.

Congratulations to Jennifer Mortensen on the purchase of Carma! We look forward to seeing her next champion foal!

2007 Rheinland Pfalz-Saar mare - 16.1 hands (Cartouche Z—Carentina, Carentino)

“Stormy” was a winning amateur jumper before her performance career concluded. Stormy earned championships from Thunderbird to Southern California before an injury sidelined her. During that time off she had a foal in 2016 (On Point, above) and returned to competition for several years before permanently retiring in 2019.

Stormy is a proven broodmare with a pedigree filled with jumping talent, is easy to get in foal and will be available open for 2023.
